Creator God
This image was inspired by the medieval sculpture of God creating Adam which is on the facade of Chartres Cathedral in France. Over the years the figures suffered erosion and the arm of Adam was particularly damaged. As I reflected on this, I was struck by the fact that we are damaged ourselves but that God loves us unconditionally with all our faults and failings and never stops loving us. I painted Adam's arm as misshapen because of this.
God, my Creator
Moulding me
Shaping me
Fashioning me
Still a work in progress
Unfinished symphony
Discords
Creating harmony
Silence
Reaching to eternity
Over and over
Your touch
Gentle
Yet powerful
Creative
Freeing
Life-giving
As I gaze at the image of God creating Adam, I have a deep sense of God, MY Creator God, my Abba, constantly ‘at work’ in me, gently creating and re-creating. He takes all the battered edges and smoothes them over with His gentle healing hands. Few words are spoken but I feel His life-giving touch, His breath – Ruach – His Spirit pulsing life, love, healing into me. He looks down at me with His compassionate gaze as if I am the centre of His world – He who created and holds in being, the entire universe! Yet, as a mother, I know how it is to love each of one’s children totally in their uniqueness. Love is not divided out. Love simple IS and overflows to all.
As I rest in His embrace, I am held, I am whole – and I look outward and forwards to what is yet to be.....and I feel called to be a channel, a vessel for His love.
Creator God,
Abba, Father,
Shape me,
Mould me,
Fashion me,
Make me wholly Thine –
Then do with me as You will!
