Christ and the Cosmos
This painting I call the Cosmic Christ. It was partly inspired by a medieval German painting of the crucifixion by Matthias Grunwald from the early 1500’s. I have intentionally changed the inscription on the board above Jesus from the familiar INRI to the Hebrew “King of Creation” and I have added the Greek words underneath from Paul’s letter to the Colossians 1:15 “the first born of all creation.”
The surface of the planet Jupiter is pictured here with the Great Red Spot. I think that the significance of Jesus for this century and the future might encompass new horizons rarely thought of, perhaps including the redemption of all sentient life wherever it may be.
