This face of Christ was inspired by "Let the Great World Spin" by Colum McCann in which one of the characters called Corrigan wants to bring hope and compassion to a broken world in downtown New York. He suffers for it. It reminded me of Jesus who does the same and yet still loves us who are the broken and vulnerable. It's almost as if he turns his eyes away from our weaknesses and failures because his love and mercy conquer the sin and darkness in us.
